Scenes From Our Weekend

Friday we took the kids to see a baseball game.  I'm not sure if they actually realized that a baseball game was going on - they were more occupied running around and watching the people around us, but they sure did enjoy the popcorn and ice cream.

Saturday while Dada ran errands with Yates I had some time with just Chloe.  I decided to walk to the park near our neighborhood and let her play without a little brother tagging along.  She loved having a day-date, just the two of us, and kept saying "Mama, I love you."  It melted my heart seeing how much fun she was having, and I realized that we need to make this happen much, much more often.

Then Sunday we spent the afternoon at the pool.  Chloe and I wore our matching bathing suits - which I happen to think are the cutest things ever.  Yates got a bit adventurous in the big pool and kept wanting to go out further.  Chloe was very content playing in the water by the steps - and could not be coaxed into the deeper end.  My children could not be any more opposite - but yet so much like hubby and I.

Until next weekend...

Mountains with Sprinkles on Top

Ice cream... you scream... we all scream for ice cream... preferably in the mountains, by a creek.  One of my favorite afternoons from our mountain vacation with Granny and Papa was getting ice cream.  We come from a family who loves sweets, and thinks that dessert should really come before every meal.  A few things I want to remember from this particular afternoon:

1 // Chloe always wants "pink" ice cream = strawberry.  I don't actually think she cares that it is strawberry but she just likes the fact that it is pink.  She didn't even come close to finishing her ice cream cone - she was much too busy asking what everyone else was doing, and watching what was going on around her.

2 // Yates, on the other hand, did not want to share his vanilla ice cream cone - and he held fast to his "no" answer every time someone asked for a bite - with a grip stronger than super glue.

3 // Chloe doesn't usually like to be messy and requests for a napkin whenever eating - however on this afternoon she could care less and didn't mind getting a little sticky.

4 //After ice cream the two played in the creek beside the ice cream shop.  Chloe was a bit cautious and enjoyed just getting her feet wet, but didn't bother getting too dirty.  Yates loved every minute of it, and not only got his feet wet but got so dirty he had to be stripped to his diaper before even getting back into the car to go home.  A bath came soon after.

5 // Ice cream tastes better in the mountains, by a creek, with a view, and with Granny and Papa.

Favorite Photo Friday

The other day Chloe picked up a dulcimer built by her great, great uncle and started singing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star while wearing only a bow in her hair and a diaper - this is one of those moments I want to remember forever.

Our Home Away From Home

We've spent a week in the mountains with Granny and Papa at their house.  It has been wonderful, especially since the hubby has been away in Michigan at football camp and I had the two kids all by myself.  We've been spoiled rotten, both the kids and I from homemade waffles for breakfast, steak for dinner, ice cream for dessert and candy from the candy store.  We had a picnic at the park, played in the creek, took morning walks down and then back up the mountain, and spent hours on the back porch swinging and rocking the afternoons away.

One morning we found the beach in the mountains.  A little lake with sand, water, a playground and mountains in the distance.  A little slice of heaven.  It was a beautiful, and I can imagine Yates going fishing there with Dada while Mama and Chloe sunbathe on the beach in the very near future.

The mountains have become our home away from home.  We've had a great week, but now I'm ready for my hubby to be home so we can share these memories together.
